Another morning, another foggy day - but not for long! As we hoped, our day in llulissat, by the amazing ice fjord, was spectacular. Located in Disco Bay, Ilulissat is at the mouth of the fjord containing Greenland's most productive glacier, Sermeq Kujalleq, also known as the Jakobshavn Glacier or Ilulissat Glacier. This glacier drains 6.5% of the entire Greenland ice sheet producing 10% of all Greenland’s icebergs, and moves at a rate of 45 metres per day at its snout. Some of the icebergs it calves can be as thick as one kilometre which explains the plethora of icebergs that accumulate behind the shallow mouth of the fjord. In the morning, we went on a small boat to travel through the iceberg field. In the afternoon we walked almost 7 kilometres through the town, including the Glacier Information Centre and the associated UNESCO World Heritage area.
