Stonyhurst College in 1987

In 1987, while Head of Geography at Saint Ignatius College, Riverview (Sydney, Australia), I undertook a one-year teaching exchange at Stonyhurst College, near Clitheroe in rural Lancashire, UK.  While at Stonyhurst, I taught Geography at A-Level and O-Level, introduced the then-new GCSE course, and served as Master of Rhetoric Playroom (a quaint title which meant I was in charge of the Senior Boarding House).  Most encouragingly, the external examination results in Geography for the 1987 and 1988 cohorts that I taught set new records for high attainment.

Apart from the top panoramic image (which shows Stonyhurst today), the images on this page are historical snapshots-in-time which I photographed through the seasons while there in 1987, scanned from slides decades later.  All images can be enlarged with a click.
