Portal to the Blogs

“As for me, I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote. I love to sail forbidden seas, and land on barbarous coasts.”                   - Herman Melville, ‘Moby Dick’

I am a geographer and I love to travel to experience new places, new cultures, new ideas, new environments and new foods.  I really enjoy understanding our world more deeply through first-hand experiences.  On this page, I have recorded a few of my travel diaries to share with you.

I shared about 350 weekly blogs on this website over a period of seven years from 2006 to 2013 while I served as Principal in two international schools.

Please use the links immediately below to access all the blogs, arranged by picture and by date.

While serving as Head of Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong from 2004 to 2011, I posted almost 250 blogs to make information about international education more accessible, and to provide some insights into the views and life of the Head of a United World College.  The links for 2006 to mid-2011 above cover the Hong Kong period.

Following my seven years in Hong Kong, I served as Head at The Awty International School in Houston, Texas until mid-2013.  During that time, I posted just over a hundred blogs to share my experiences as the Head of the largest international school in the United States.  These blogs can be accessed by going to the year-by-year links for 2011 to 2013.

I have also posted several travel diaries in the form of daily blogs to share my ‘non-work’ experiences during my breaks between school terms.  These can be accessed HERE.

I also publish frequent short articles (which some might consider to be blogs) on school leadership and governance on my Optimal School Governance website.  These blogs can be accessed HERE.
