After an early morning walk around the cathedral and an absolutely amazing breakfast, the first part of the day comprised a ‘highway’ drive west from Elgin to Inverness. We made a welcome stop in Inverness where I was able to buy a much-needed obsolete power brick for my antiquated laptop (which I was trying to use as an emergency replacement for the one that had been stolen a week previously in Senegal), enabling me to retain contact with the sider world. We then took the Highland Route to Donnie where we spent some time exploring the small but impressive Eileen Dolan Castle, including the views from Carr Brae viewpoint. Our overnight stay was in Plockton, a pretty waterside town that made for excellent afternoon walking.
