We spent a day in Greenland’s largest settlement and capital ‘city’, Nuuk. With 20,000 of Greenland’s 57,000 people, it is easy to understand why Nuuk is atypical of every other settlement in the country, offering a range of goods and services unobtainable elsewhere in the country. Because of the shortage of land, many of the old traditional colonial-style buildings are being replaced with high-rise blacks of flats, and the rapid rate of construction was evident in many parts Nuuk with new, often partially finished buildings and even a few dozen cranes.
