In late May and early June 2023, I undertook a fairly unusual transit trip across Africa.  I was travelling from Australia to Scotland using flights that were paid by using frequent flyer points.  Because points flights were extraordinarily difficult to find in October 2022 when I made the bookings, I had to be very flexible with my dates and the routes taken – which helps explain the unusual routing that took me across Africa via some really interesting (for me) stopover points.
