GCAT Project to Support Medical Clinics in Guizhou - Photos from my visit in March 2008

GCAT (the Global Concerns Action Team) at Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong is sponsoring the construction of two medical clinics in Majiang County (麻江县), Guizhou Province, China in co-operation with Amity Foundation. This page is one of 36 galleries showing the area and its medical needs.

The eerie karst countryside around Xuetou on a wet and misty day.

The farmers in Majiang County build quite distinctive haystacks.

The farming fields on the outskirts of Xuetou village.

Typical houses in Xuetou.

The farmers store their corn in the open air, hanging from the eaves of the houses.

This building is the present medical clinic in Xuetou village.

The medical clinic in Xuetou is not even big enough to fit a bed.

Speaking with the doctor in charge of the clinic in Xuetou village.

The doctor does many house calls using this ‘barefoot doctor’ era medical kit.

The doctor in Xuetou clinic does his work in a building constructed by his father.

We were welcomed into the new house of this 67 year old arthritis sufferer.

The old arthritis sufferer in her brand new home - very basic, but dry.

This storage shed has developed quite an unstable lean.
