In January 2014 I undertook a reconnaissance trip through West Africa to investigate interesting places in preparation for a Geographical Society Study Tour I am planning to lead to the region in January 2015.
The trip involved travel through eight fascinating countries of West Africa - Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso. Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Gambia.
I was accompanied by my youngest son, Andrew, for most of the trip.
