In late July 2012, I travelled to one of the world’s least known and most isolated islands, the Republic of Nauru in the Pacific Ocean.

Nauru is not only off the beaten track - it is well away from almost everyone’s travel itineraries, with the exception of a few aid workers, mine managers and (until a few years ago) refugees (the so-called “boat people”).

This travel diary reveals a surprisingly interesting place that deserves more recognition than it usually receives.
