Chinese Cultural Evening
Chinese Cultural Evening
Monday, 25 January 2010
Entirely planned and co-ordinated by our students from China, including of course Hong Kong, the evening began with a special banquet dinner in the canteen, followed by almost two hours of sensational cultural performances in the courtyard.
In preparation for the evening, the students produced a promotional video, which can be seen in a separate browser window by clicking the CCE logo (also designed by the students) to the above left. The students also produced an invitation for our parents, a copy of which can be seen by clicking HERE.
I am often asked about the impressive range of unique skills that our College develops in its students, and how we do it. Many of those fine qualities - such as determination to achieve excellence, sound time management, deep cultural understanding, a high degree of idealism, rare initiative and outstanding leadership in a wide variety of fields - were demonstrated in last night’s CCE. However, I think that one of the truly remarkable skills that we develop is the ability of students to organise themselves into teams to achieve extraordinary outcomes. We have seen it recently with the ambitious and highly successful youth conferences (Iraq-US and Sino-Japan) that our students planned and managed to bring together young people from regions in conflict, and this exceptional teamwork of our students was clearly apparent to all again at last night’s CCE.
I have assembled a gallery of 75 images to show just a few aspects of this wonderful evening. I hope that the photos convey the colour and the excitement of the event, as they unfortunately can’t communicate the movement and sound of the evening (although the video clip accessible through the logo above may help in that regard).
The image gallery can be seen HERE.
I often tell people how proud I am of our students. Anyone attending last night’s CCE would have no difficulty understanding why.
