EDB Visit
EDB Visit
Monday, 4 May 2009
Our College probably receives more than its fair share of high-level delegations, and it is always a pleasure and an honour to welcome visitors. Last week, as seems to happen at this time of year, several groups of senior personnel from various schools visited us to learn about implementation of the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma program - understandable as we have graduated more IB students than most other schools in the East Asian region.
On Monday, we were privileged to receive three distinguished visitors from the Education Bureau (EDB). The leader of the delegation was Mr Raymond Sy, Principal Assistant Secretary of the Infrastructure and Research Support Division of the EDB. He was accompanied by two other senior officers from the EDB, Mrs Candy Yeung and Mr Louis Ng (who coincidentally was a former parent of an LPCUWC student).
The visit was a very wide ranging one, and included a visit to our student dormitories before observing two lessons. It was a joy to spend about an hour over lunch in our canteen discussing educational approaches and philosophy, our criteria and processes for selecting students, our plans to respond to the forthcoming educational reforms in Hong Kong, our welfare policies and approaches to behavioural standards, and so on. Our visitors were extremely sharp, enthusiastic and articulate advocates for quality education, and it was a genuine delight to have the opportunity to discuss complex and important issues at such a lofty level and in such detail.
