A Big Banoffee Week

Sunday, 1 February 2009

This has not been the greatest week for taking photos.  The weather has been cold, grey, misty and bleak - hardly fantastic weather for the full week’s break we have just had to celebrate Chinese New Year.  Because of the break, only about half of our students have been on campus.  One of the consequences of that is that we have had brunch each day to replace the usual breakfast and lunch.

The photo above shows the dessert table in the middle of the canteen this week.  Off to the left,
out of sight, is the servery with hot buffet food and salads.  Off to the right, also out of sight, is the cook making omelettes to order.  I am focussing on the dessert table because as anyone who knows me will realise, I get quite excited when banoffee pie is served.  And we had it five times this week!

For those who don’t know what banoffee pie is, it is an English dessert made from bananas, caramel, cream and boiled condensed milk on a crumbled biscuits base.  You can see a big tray of it sitting on the table in the photo above, and a closer view to the right (click to enlarge).  I’m sorry that this close view is not as clear as I would have liked - I should have taken a larger helping to make the cross-section clearer.

The Year of the Ox is off to a great start!
