A Great Week
A Great Week

It has been a great week.
On Monday, we held an important meeting to select new database and record keeping software for the College, an important decision that was necessary to guarantee future data stability and reliability as well as ensuring ease of use for our staff. On Wednesday afternoon, the Board’s Staffing Committee approved a more generous staffing formula for next year that will allow an exciting expansion to our curriculum offerings - to the obvious benefit of our students. On Thursday evening, our weekly GIF (Global Issues Forum) focussed on the important issue of HIV/AIDS, with the students in our TeenAIDers group presenting up-to-date factual information followed by a very moving candlelit reflection ceremony. Then, on Friday morning, I presented my ToK (Theory of Knowledge) lecture on “Truth” to all the 1st Year students, and I really appreciated their very generous and encouraging comments at the conclusion. And despite all this diverse action, I managed to complete all my tutor group reports and testimonials (almost) on time - it’s little wonder that I felt good when the weekend arrived.
In the midst of this action-packed week, it was a welcome privilege to host the first student music recital for this academic year. Musical concerts in the Principal's Residence have been an LPCUWC tradition for several years. This week’s concert attracted an audience of 50 people - quite a substantial crowd to fit in our living room and more-than-sufficient to finish off what I thought was quite a generous afternoon tea! As always, the quality of the music was sensational - I must remember to create some sound files next time we have one of these concerts to that I can share the experience!
I may not have any sound bites, but I do have some images that I can share with you, however. To access a gallery of 24 images of the recital, please click HERE.
The busy weekend continues - in a few hours we begin our second Open Day for the year. If you are reading this (and you live in Hong Kong, or if you have a very fast jet), you would be very welcome to visit our campus for Open Day tomorrow (Sunday 2nd December). In addition to the tours and performances that have been arranged, I will be giving two illustrated presentations, these being at 10:00 am and 11:30 am. The presentations should be of interest to students (and their families) who are interested in applying for a scholarship to enter Li Po Chun United World College or any of the other UWCs in other countries.
