http://www.stephencodrington.com/Hub/LOTW.html Beginning in November 1993, I was involved for two years in negotiations to establish a new co-operative venture school in the north-eastern Chinese city of Harbin. At the time, I was Principal of St Paul’s Grammar School in Sydney, Australia. The aim of the negotiations was to open a pre-IB and IB Diploma school in partnership with the Harbin Light Industry Bureau on the campus of the Harbin Light Industry College. Despite many twists and turns during the negotiations, the school opened on 11th March 1996, the first school school in China since 1949 to be authorised to teach senior secondary students a program other than the Chinese national curriculum. The school operated successfully for several years before restructuring within the Harbin Light Industry Bureau forced its closure. Ahead of its time in many ways, the images on this page are a small sample of the many photos I took during my time working to create the new school in Harbin.
