Remembering Central Asia
Remembering Central Asia
The great summer trip to Central Asia is over and I have returned to Hong Kong. It was wonderful to experience different cultures, wondrous geography and great people in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Iran. And it was even better to catch up with Liesl and Brendan in Sydney, Phil and Michelle in Melbourne and Tim and Deb in Queensland at the end of the long travels. A trip diary with photos can be read by clicking HERE.
There were many memorable experiences, so which one do I include as a photo? The one chosen was perhaps the most spectacular place we saw, the Darvaza Gas Crater in the Karakum Desert of central Turkmenistan. It reminded me of hell in Dante’s Inferno as the rocks burned endlessly with intense heat without being consumed! You can read all about it on the relevant days of my daily trip diary HERE and HERE.
