Houston Blog
My blog from Houston, Texas. Updated most weeks, usually on Sundays.
Our youngest son, Andrew, turned 21 this week. Although these days the 18th birthday has largely replaced the 21st as marking the passage into adulthood, the 21st birthday still seems to hold great emotional significance - at least in our family.
Being so far away from our children and grandchildren (all of whom live in Australia) is perhaps the hardest part of living in Houston for Di and me. It was therefore very fortunate that our spring break at Awty enabled Di and I to join Andrew, and the rest of our family, for a celebration dinner in Canberra to mark Andrew’s 21st birthday. As my mother’s birthday falls just two days away from Andrew’s, it also enabled me to thrill her with a most unusual visit from her only son (me!) for this year’s birthday - her 83rd.
Di and I are truly proud of all four of our wonderful children, so the opportunity to come together from the four cities where we live for Andrew’s birthday was a tremendous joy. Rather than attempting to brag publicly about my youngest son, I would like a share a short YouTube tribute video that my daughter, Liesl, prepared for Andrew to mark his 21st birthday. I think it is fabulous, and I hope you do too.
Happy 21st birthday to our son, Andrew
